SUMMIT FEATURES
Worship/Plenary Sessions
Evening sessions are uplifting, multi-ethnic worship services. Challenging speakers and testimonies
from diverse ministry practitioners provide a central context for the Summit experience.
Seminars
Whether you are just beginning your ministry or desiring to sharpen the effectiveness of your
outreach, you will find the seminars to be extremely practical. These seminars will be led by
experienced practitioners and fellow workers who are building God’s unity for the nations. Each
person chooses four seminars from sixty options.
Networking/Affinity Groups
Developing intercultural relationships is central to effective cross-cultural advancement of the
Gospel. In response to this reality, the Summit has been designed with numerous opportunities
for networking to foster new relationships and enrich existing ones. The afternoon affinity group
sessions provide opportunity for attendees to meet together for specific areas of ministry
interest, or for denominations, agencies and/or people groups to process the Summit goals in
contexts unique to them.

From the Director
On November 8, our Executive Team held a called meeting, just its second one in my eleven years here. A matter surfaced, needing action between our September and January meetings. I wanted to bring you
up to speed on this. We became aware that the Red Cross building on Garner Road was for sale, for less than a 2008 offer we had received on ours. This building (long paid for) has served us well since 1987, but ministry expansions in recent years had “maxed out” many of its spaces. Our staff toured the Red Cross building and was unanimous that it would better serve our present and future needs. Our trustees, officers and Budget/Finance team leader toured also, concurred with our assessment, and agreed that it would be a good investment. We asked the 2008 bidder for their best offer on our building. We knew it would be reduced by the recession and real estate market drop since then, but their new offer was within five percent of the old one. So we gave a 1-week notice for a called meeting at the conclusion of our November Pastors Conference luncheon here. It was well-attended, and unanimously approved motions on six specifics that would/could be needed to sell our building and buy another, including what we would offer for it. We knew it had another prospective buyer, whose offer was accepted shortly after ours was received. We immediately offered to pay more, but they would not accept a counter-offer. Since we have an offer on our building, and this is still a “buyers market” for commercial real estate, we will continue to explore other options. Until the sale of the Red Cross building closes, we would not offer on an alternative which would not meet our needs that well. What are our needs? (1) At least 6,000 square feet; (2) A ground-level space which could comfortably hold a seated dinner for fifty; (3) Parking for 30 cars, two Block Party trailers and luggage trailer; (4) Kitchen; (5) Five offices plus conference room; (6) Large restrooms; (7) Work room and storage areas; (8) Location that is central and/or easily
accessible; (9) Building which could be bought and up-fitted for less than a half-million dollars. If you notice an available building, contact our office and we will take a look. We are disappointed that we did not get the Red Cross building, but are at peace. If the sale closes to the other buyer, we will make do here, or Jehovah-Jireh will provide the right building, at the right time, at the right price.
Happy New Year!

Paul McKee, Missions Ministry Consultant
2011 FAIR & FEED THE COMMUNITY: What a blessing for all those who had a part in the Fair
Ministry in 2011. Let me share a special thanks to all of you who had a part in volunteering again.
Mark your calendars now for Oct. 7-14, 2012. And, once again, on behalf of FTC, we served right at 9,500
meals and collected 3,300 pies with the help of our friends at N. Spartan Baptist Association. We couldn’t
do this ministry without you partnering with us each year. THANKS!
? ? ?
PRISON PACKETS: Thanks for everyone’s help with Prison Packets. We missed our goal of 1,200, but
were close. We collected 1,109 packets this year. Statewide, we hope to collect over 25,000 so every inmate in SC will get one. May each packet be an expression of God’s love to those who receive them. In the midst of a challenging economy, let me say “Great job Network churches!”
? ? ?
JANUARY’S PROJECTS ARE the “United Carpenters For Christ (UCFC)” and “COSMOS” emphases.
• UCFC: In 2012 we hope to expand our partnership with UCFC by involving more of our churches in this ministry. Unlike CIA who works primarily on repairing, with UCFC, we will be working on homes and churches and other projects that come to our attention. If you are interested in being on a list of volunteers interested in this type of work, please call the Network and let us know. This will be our new construction focus for 2012.
• Children’s Outreach Support Ministry of Sptbg (COSMOS): Children all around Spartanburg County have little if any means of getting some basic items on a daily basis. With winter approaching, many children in our county need your help. You can donate socks, colored T-shirts without logos of any kind, gloves, toboggans/hats and personal hygiene items like soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste. If we all do a little, the needs will be met. Get a copy of the 2012 mission booklet to start planning how you will serve in the new year by helping others.
? ? ?
FEBRUARY’S PROJECTS ARE the “Easter Evangelism Extravaganza” and “Miller Place Residential Care”
• Easter Evangelism Extravaganza: This year Easter comes in early April. Our Pre-Easter outreach in the Appalachia region of Bluefield, VA will be taking place in late March. Last year, we collected about 2,000 eggs with just a few churches helping. If you can help, they are in need of 50,000 eggs this year. Our goal is 10,000 plastic Easter eggs filled with an individually wrapped piece of hard candy and tape around it. This is a great mission project for WMU, RA’s, GA’s or Awana groups to make a difference in reaching people in Appalachia with the Gospel. This outreach literally touches thousands of people. In 2011, we had 3,500 people attend this event and 24 saved and countless other positive outcomes resulting from this event. The church plant we are partnering with is now growing and maturing. Please call the Network if you plan to help so we can
plan accordingly or if you have questions. Please bring all eggs to the Network by the week of March 5-9, 2012. Pray for this evangelistic Block Party event being held on March 24th of 2012.
• Miller Place: This ministry is a residential facility that cares for 24- to 85-year-old persons daily and can always use help with basic necessities. See the Network Mission Booklet for more details.
? ? ?
OTHER MISSION OPPORTUNITIES:
• Croft Baptist is in need of people to help teach community children on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8:30. They currently have 75 coming but cannot handle the task on their own. Please call Missy Rabon at 415-6010 or email mrabon@bellsouth.net to learn more about the need and how you can help.
• Multi-Housing Ministry: The Reserve at Park West apartments has an opening for a couple (preferred) or individual to serve in the Apartment Life ministry. You live in an apartment onsite and serve 12 hours per week ministering to the residents in that complex. If interested in learning more about this unique opportunity, please call. Your housing is minimal in exchange for your service, which helps maintain retention among residents.
Let’s make 2012 a Great Commission year!
Get a copy of the Network’s 2012 Annual Mission Booklet for more details on these and other mission ideas. It is available now.
HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
BAPTIST COLLEGIATE MINISTRY
Suzanne Bachelor
Two-thousand twelve has arrived and if you are like me, you are still getting used to a new year. At Spartanburg Baptist Collegiate Ministry we are excited about all the possibilities that a fresh semester has to offer.
We welcome Michael Burgett, who will serve as associate campus minister. Michael is a recent seminary graduate and has a heart for college students and offers much experience in the areas of student
ministry and missions. He steps into the role where Rev. Ricky Eason has served so faithfully and
done so well. Michael will benefit from the intentional relationships with students that Ricky has
built. We also hope to welcome a new semester missionary to our team, but at the time of this
writing, this is not yet definite, so that individual will be introduced in an upcoming issue.
Speaking of newness and change, students are getting used to a lot of new things too, including new
classes, new professors with new expectations and for some, even new roommates. Change can be good, but change is not always easy. This brings me to offer the following prayer requests for students as they make adjustments:
• Pray for students, that as they face the tensions and frustrations of change, believers will have opportunities to make connections and offer hope.
• Pray for our international students who were not able to go home to see family over the Christmas break, that they will be encouraged and know that they are loved and cared for while they are apart.
• Pray for Spartanburg BCM, that our leadership team will seek God’s direction as we plan ministry/service events, small group schedules, fellowships, and student worship services to reach out to our missionary field – the campuses.
We give God the glory in advance for all the work that He has planned for us to do! Ephesians 2:10

I would like to express my thanks to the Baptist Network for all their support for me and my family
as we prepare to go and serve in East Asia. The last month has been filled with activities, last
meetings, last events and many goodbyes. Also, the generous gift I received was beyond expectations!
Thank you for your generosity and care for all of us. In January 2012, Sheri Norris will be the Interim International Ministries. Many of you know Billy and Sheri Norris who returned last year from serving overseas. They have been God’s blessings to my family in preparing us to go. Both of them
have already been involved in working with International students in the area, organizing events, connecting with school leaders and forming relationships. I know Sheri will do a wonderful job, since she and Billy have a heart for Internationals. Please welcome Sheri as she comes to continue this work among the nations.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you!
