 Our Past

In early 1962, Cannons Baptist Mission began holding services in the Cannons Elementary School gym. This mission came out of Drayton Baptist Church. Rev. Heyward Comer, pastor of Drayton Baptist Church also served as the mission’s pastor.

In the early fall of 1963, Cannons Mission was organized and became the Cannons Baptist Church. Rev. Cecil Seagle was called to be the first pastor of the church.

With the help of Drayton Baptist Church, a church building was constructed at 2990 Cannons Campground Rd. The people of Cannons Baptist continued to meet at that same location for the next 40 years.

A number of pastors served the church between the years of 1963 and 1996. Pastor David Swofford was called to pastor the church in December of 1996 and continues to pastor Crossroads today.

In 2003, plans were underway to build a new sanctuary when the church was approached by Restoration Church about the possibility of purchasing their property at 130 Conway Black Rd. After much prayer and consideration, the church felt the Lord leading them to change their plans and make the purchase.

In June of 2004, Cannons Baptist Church became Crossroads Baptist Church and began meeting at the Conway Black Rd. location. In 2006 the church purchased some additional property surrounding the church from Restoration.

Our Present

Our current focus is to help people reach their full potential in God’s kingdom. David Swofford is our senior pastor. Darrell McDowell is our associate for ministry development. They work closely together to see that new members get plugged into positions that utilize their spiritual gifts and passions.

God is most at work here at Crossroads in our spirited worship services. Our worship ministry is led by Jesse Sprinkle ( our worship leader ) and our praise team. This is the open door through which many new young families are entering our church.

We have a strong student ministry ( ONE80 ) which is led by Todd Hill and a team of caring youth workers.

Our children’s ministry is led by Kim Ridings. Kim has a team of devoted individuals who help to carry out the varied activities offered to the children. We have children’s church ( S.T.A.R.S. Worship Rally ) for both pre-school and school age children. There is also a Wednesday night S.T.A.R.S. program for all age children.

Our children’s music program is excellent. Aimee Sprinkle, Love Threatt, Leah Pettit, and Sharon McDowell work together along with other volunteers to bring music to life for our children. They are able to get involved in such things as drama, choir, praise belles, and children’s praise team.

Our Future

God has given us a vision of helping people reach their potential in God's kingdom. We want our church to be a place where people find grace for their brokenness while also being challenged to grow and mature.

Our plan to carry out our vision has four parts. Our desire is to have vibrant, exciting, God-focused worship in a relaxed atmosphere. We want our discipleship to be both informational and relational so God's people gain knowledge but are also connected to each other. We also believe it is crucial for every follower of Jesus Christ to discover their passions and gifts for ministry so they can serve in the Body of Christ. Finally, we want to share the good news about Jesus Christ by reaching out in our community while also providing opportunities to do mission in other parts of our nation and around the world.
